Polycarbonate sheets were selected as the material of choice for this prototype, as a part of the client's requirement for the furniture to be flat-packed and affordable.
It was a further development on the drawbacks of Prototype I, which treated the skin and the structure as 2 separate entities, making it unstable structurally and reducing the storage space.
Prototype Il was developed to integrate the skin and the structure with a simple notch and Velcro system - making the furniture act as one system and reducing the amount of structure required to take the weight of the books and the child.
The simple yet playful connection details were designed so that a child could also help in the assembly of the furniture. The snap-on buckle like connections make for easy assembly and dismantling of the furniture.
